How to Link Your YouTube Credentials in Data Streams
After signing up for Data Streams, you need to link your YouTube credentials to set YouTube as a data source.
Here’s how you do that:
- Click ‘SET DATA EXTRACT SOURCE.’
- Choose ‘YouTube’ from the drop-down menu.
- After choosing your platform, click ‘Link.’
- Insert your Google credentials that have access to the YouTube account you want to set as a Data Source.
- Grant the app permission to access your Google data by clicking ‘Allow.’

Limitations & errors
YouTube API limitations
YouTube’s v2 API is very immature and there are many basic combinations of metrics and dimensions that don't work.
Check below for valid reports, and please refer to YouTube’s documentation for more reports available
Note: Keep in mind that many reports listed in their documentation are not valid and will not be supported by their API, like most reports involving the ‘Country’ dimension.

Report fields in these reports are characterized as either dimensions or metrics:
- Dimensions are common criteria that are used to aggregate data, such as the date on which an action occurred or the country where the users were located. In a report, each row of data has a unique combination of dimension values.
- Metrics are individual measurements related to user activity, ad performance, or estimated revenue. User activity metrics include things like video view counts and ratings (likes and dislikes).
Basic user activity statistics
This report provides statistics related to users' actions on a channel. You can filter the report to only return data for a specific video or country.
User activity by subscribed status
This report provides user activity metrics for subscribed and unsubscribed viewers.
The ‘Live Or On Demand’ dimension cannot be used in conjunction with the ‘Average View Percentage’ metric.
As such, each of the following subsections lists two reports. One report supports the ‘Live Or On Demand’ dimension while the other supports the ‘Average View Percentage’ metric.

Video Playback Location Report
This report aggregates viewing statistics based on the manner in which viewers reached your playlist content. For example, it identifies the number of views that stemmed from a Google search.
Device type and operating system
This report aggregates viewing statistics based on the manner in which viewers reached your playlist content. For example, it identifies the number of views that occurred on mobile devices or game consoles.
This report aggregates viewing statistics based on viewers' operating systems. For example, it identifies the number of playlist views that occurred on Android devices or on PlayStations.
Operating system and device type
This report aggregates viewing statistics based on viewers' operating systems and device types. For example, it identifies the number of playlist views that occurred on Android tablets or on Windows desktop devices.
This report lists the channel's top playlists based on the specified filtering and sorting criteria.
Ad performance reports
Ad performance reports provide impression-based metrics for ads that ran during video playbacks. These metrics account for each ad impression, and each video playback can yield multiple impressions.
